Do I Have to Pay Customs Charges?Updated 24 days ago
Cortazu is not responsible for customs duties, import taxes, handling fees, or other charges applied once a parcel reaches the destination country. We are also not responsible for return shipping costs if you refuse the delivery.
For shipments outside the European Union, import duties, taxes, and customs-related costs are the customer’s responsibility. Please note that the United Kingdom is no longer part of the EU and may therefore be subject to import charges.
We ship all orders from the Netherlands. Depending on the destination, the following may apply:
European Union (EU)
Orders shipped within the EU generally do not incur customs duties or import charges. VAT is included in the purchase price, so customers should not normally be charged additional VAT upon delivery.
United Kingdom (UK)
Orders shipped to the UK may be subject to import VAT, customs duties, or carrier handling fees. The charges and the way VAT is collected depend on factors such as the value of the shipment and the applicable UK import rules.
These charges are determined by the UK authorities and the carrier. Cortazu cannot estimate or reimburse them. We recommend checking the latest guidance from HM Revenue & Customs before placing an order.
United States (USA)
Orders shipped to the United States may be subject to import duties, tariffs, taxes, and carrier or customs-processing fees.
Effective August 29, 2025, the United States suspended duty-free de minimis treatment for most low-value shipments from all countries. This means that shipments valued at $800 or less may also be subject to import charges.
Any applicable charges are determined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the carrier and are the customer’s responsibility. Cortazu cannot estimate or reimburse these charges. We recommend checking the latest information from U.S. Customs and Border Protection or your carrier before placing an order.
Other International Destinations
For destinations outside the EU, including Canada, Switzerland, China, and Australia, import duties, taxes, and carrier handling fees may apply. These charges vary depending on the destination, order value, product classification, and local customs rules.
We recommend checking your country’s import requirements before placing an order.
Exchanges for Countries Outside the EU
We can offer exchanges for orders shipped to countries outside the EU, including the UK, United States, Switzerland, Canada, and Australia.
However, the replacement parcel is considered a new international shipment and may be subject to customs duties, import taxes, and handling fees again. All such charges are the customer’s responsibility.
Cortazu does not cover customs-related costs or the shipping costs associated with an exchange to these destinations.
Refusing a Package Because of Customs Charges
If you refuse a delivery because of customs charges, the parcel will normally be returned to us.
A refund can only be processed after the returned parcel has arrived at our warehouse and has been inspected. The return process may take several days or longer, depending on the carrier and destination.
The original shipping costs will not be refunded. Any customs duties, import taxes, tariffs, or carrier handling fees paid directly to customs authorities or the carrier will also not be refunded by Cortazu.
For example, the £18 shipping fee for a UK order will not be reimbursed when a shipment is refused.
Refunds for International Orders
If you choose a refund rather than an exchange, the original shipping costs are non-refundable. Customs duties, import taxes, tariffs, and handling fees are also non-refundable by Cortazu because these amounts are charged by customs authorities or carriers and are not paid to Cortazu.
