Maintenance and CareUpdated 15 days ago

At Cortazu, we design our outdoor products to perform in the toughest conditions, whether you're scaling peaks, trekking through forests, or navigating city streets on a rainy day. But even the highest-quality gear needs proper care to stay in peak condition.

Regular maintenance not only extends the life of your products but also helps them perform the way they were intended. Taking a few simple steps can preserve their functionality, appearance, and technical features, so you’re always ready for the next adventure.

Below, we’ve outlined some general tips to help you take care of your Cortazu outerwear and gear. For more specific guidance, please refer to our upcoming articles on DWR treatment and washing instructions.

General Maintenance Tips

1. Clean Off Dirt and Debris Regularly

After each use—especially after exposure to mud, sand, salt, or pollutants—give your gear a gentle shake and wipe down. Use a damp cloth or soft brush to remove surface dirt. This prevents buildup that can affect the fabric’s breathability and water resistance.

2. Store Your Gear Properly

Avoid stuffing your jacket or pants into tight spaces for long periods. Store your gear in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Use a breathable garment bag or hang it up with enough space to avoid crushing the fabric or materials.

3. Avoid Excessive Heat

Keep your gear away from heaters, radiators, or prolonged sun exposure, which can damage fabrics, coatings, and waterproof membranes. Always let your gear air-dry naturally.

4. Inspect for Wear and Tear

Check zippers, seams, velcro, and elastic parts regularly. Spotting small issues early, like a frayed drawcord or loose stitching, can prevent bigger problems down the line. If you notice a defect or issue, check our warranty policy or contact us for repair options.

5. Reinforce Water Repellency

Over time, even the best outerwear can lose its water-repellent finish. That doesn’t mean it's worn out—just that it might be time to refresh the DWR coating. We'll explain how to do that in our DWR-specific care guide.

Caring with Purpose

Taking good care of your gear isn’t just good for performance—it’s good for the planet. With proper maintenance, you’ll extend the life of your products, reduce waste, and minimize the need for replacements. It's one more way we can all contribute to a more sustainable outdoor industry.
